I wrote a new short story this month for a challenge over at Vocal. The challenge was to write a story that involves a body of water. It could be a pond, a lake, or a swimming pool. Whatever you wanted.

At first, I wanted to write a story about a mysterious fish pond in a new home owner’s back yard. We have a small fish pond that we installed ourselves, so that idea came to me right away.

However, when I finally sat down to write it, a totally different character and situation popped into my head and I decided to see where it goes. The result is a creepy little story I called The Truth About the Black River.
