I posted a pic of the giant fern many months ago when we first bought it. We planted it in a galvanized tub on the patio. I don’t care much for potted plants that I have to bring in. I much prefer the hanging baskets that usually die off by the end of the steamy summer. But this summer never got too steamy, so the potted plants flourished. Most of them were annuals this year, except for two ferns. We bought a typical hanging basket with a Boston fern in it, and then we bought this gigantic thing.

They both did so well this season I hated to let them die. So we brought both of them in. The Boston fern is on a plant stand in our dining room, and the gigantic potted fern is in the basement in front of a window. I am called her Audry III, after Audrey II from the movie Little Shop of Horrors, because this thing is HUGE! The picture really doesn’t do it justice, but it is at least 4 feet wide and 4 feet tall.

I’m hoping I’m not overwatering it. Since it came in, I’ve watered it every other day. And I’m also spraying the leaves with a spray bottle of water every other day. I’m determined to keep this thing alive so we can enjoy it again next year! We’ll see what happens. If you have suggestions on wintering ferns inside, I’d love to hear them!
