Here’s an odd little flower that we added last year and it really holds its on. Its called Kniphofia or Trotoma. This color is called Flamenco Mix. It attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, and apparently its leaves taste good too because the rabbits will not leave it alone. As you can see from the first picture, the flower has no leaves.
It’s a nice pop of color although it does not grow very tall. We have it planted in a smaller, newer bed and its dominated by tall irises around it. Still a nice lil flower though that I am glad to see this year. It loves full sun in the summer and well drained soil. It can grow about 32″ tall, although I think this one is shy. The mix of yellow, orange, and red really make it stand out though.
