I started writing a short story today that required some Memphis research. I lived in Memphis for six years before moving to St. Louis. I miss it. I haven’t been back since 2003. So, it was nice to find some Memphis (pronounced mayumpfiss by some of the locals) people keeping that ole Southern spirit alive.
At Home She Feels Like a Tourist

Here’s one my own favorite photos taken while I lived down there. It’s from the beloved Elmwood Cemetery which is the setting for my next book.

this cemetery is a tourist trap. the employees dress up like ghosts and charge people to trapse over the graves of someone’s parents and someone’s little children. they even go so far as to have open caskets laid around the grounds. how disrespectful can you get?
Hi Michael-
I knew “events” like that took place at certain times of the year, but I myself never got to attend them. Every time I went to the cemetery to take photos, I never had to pay and never was approached by employees. Often, I felt like I had the whole place to myself. And no caskets on the ground when I was there. It’s still one of the most mysterious and hauntingly beautiful cemeteries I’ve ever been to.
Thanks for your comment,
