So, last night I dreamt about the B-52s, only there were five of them and they were younger and cuter and different. Fred was Fred but looked completely different. You know how dreams are. They were going to be playing in a mall in some store and I got pulled up on stage during one of the songs. It was a weird dream, like many, that doesn’t really have an explanation that I can think of. And even now, as I write about it, it’s just barely hanging onto my conscious mind. I’m lucky to remember this much of a dream these days. I also remember waiting for the concert to start, across the mall in a bookstore and they couldn’t check anyone out because the electricity was out and we were worried it would postpone the concert. I remember shaking hands with Fred and telling him I’d seen him in concert before at a casino in Tunica, Mississippi (true story), and I remember trying to back away from him because I was worried of speaking into his microphone he was wearing on his collar. There’s not really much more worth mentioning, or that I can remember in vivid detail.
So what ever happened to the real B-52s? Gosh, it’s been at least eight years since I saw them in concert and they were horrible. They were like some shy teenagers doing a horrible impression of the B-52s I’d seen on MTV. They just stood there and looked bored and swayed a little. But I’ll never forget the cool video to Love Shack. It’s such a feel good song! It was also the first television appearance of the beloved drag queen, RuPaul. But so is life…we all get old and boring I guess. And lost in dreams.
